A New Year

I finally have my computer up and working. That very much excites me... so now (hopefully) I'll be a little more diligent with keeping up with my blog :)

But being a new year and all I though it would be fun to recap some of my favorite moments of the year. Cos a whole bunch happened this past year... it was the year of the Rat (coincidentally my year, you can come to any conclusions you would like). So I had a lot going for me.

A year ago, I was still in school. I was in my last semester and I was enjoying it (as much as you can enjoy school in Logan in the freezing cold). I was a TA for some art history classes so I got to talk and learn about art. That was probably my saving grace that semester. I had a research class where I needed to write a twenty page paper...sure it was also about art, but let's just say being able to help the students in that other class learn and memorize art was a lot more fun and exciting than writing a scholarly paper about unicorns!!!

But excitingly enough, I graduated. Who would have thought it would take me a total of six years, two schools, and five changes of my major to finally graduate May 2008 in Art History at Utah State University.

But right after graduation, I packed up my room in Logan unsure of where my travels would take me. I did, however, know that I would be going to South Dakota to Boy Scout Camp once again.

I drove all the way from Utah to Custer, SD (only a mere ten hours) all myself. It wasn't too bad...I just have to say I'm not that fond of Wyoming all that much... not the most exciting of states to be driving through. But really, past blog entries tell of my travels in SD.

I guess the most exciting thing that happened in SD was I met Jason. He was there at the Boy Scout Camp, too. And he was a lot of fun.

Then my year just kind of went from there. I came back to Utah with a boyfriend. I tried for some full time jobs in Logan. But I only got my same old one from the Logan library.

I went to PA to visit Jason's family. I had never been back east, but I sure did enjoy this trip.

I paid a surprise visit to Jason in SD over Veteran's Day...sure I knew I would see him just in a couple of weeks for Thanksgiving, but really I couldn't help myself with the idea of surprising Jason. He had no idea that I was coming and the look on his face was priceless.

We only got to spend about four days together, but really that was better than nothing.

But then he came for Thanksgiving... and we all know what happened there. And from there I started planning wedding stuff. Wow, I never thought it would be such a pain. There's just a million things to plan and the wedding industry sure doesn't help you keep it plain and simple.

Oh well. For Christmas I made Jason a quilt. Yep, this was my first attempts at a quilt and I sure stretched myself. It was a pretty simple design, but still, you should never make a queen size quilt for your first attempt. But they were just blocks of old clothes that I would never wear again, but for the life of me I just couldn't let them go. So instead, I made them into a quilt. I am very pleased with the end result, but you can definitely tell that a novice made that quilt.

This is just a picture of the first process of the quilt. I soon found out when I put the quilt on the frames to tie it that my room is the same size as a queen size quilt. Getting into my bed was an interesting experience-having to slide under the frame and roll onto and off my bed. It was quite the laughable sight.

But Christmas was pretty fun. I came in second place for my family's Rice Krispie Bake-Off. I was robbed. That's all I say.

Jason and I also set our wedding date. 28 March 2009. That is exactly nine months from our first date we had way back in June. It really doesn't matter what we do, Jason and I always seem to always have fun.

It was great to be able to spend New Year's with him as well (even though I fell asleep around 11 PM, pretty boring of me), it's nice to know that I'll have a whole bunch more of New Year's to spend with him.

Here's to 2008 (Year of the Rat) and hoping that 2009 will be just as great!

I didn't realize you had a blog! It was fun hearing your story of how you met Jason and got engaged. Congratulations! I'm so excited for you! Are you getting married in Utah?
